US private equity group Prodos Capital may need to make use of an interpreting service after it purchased Italian fashion house Gianfranco Ferre.

In a statement, the designer brand’s parent company IT Holding – which was admitted to bankruptcy protection last year with debts of around €1.2 billion (£1 billion) – revealed Italy’s industry ministry had given its approval to the sale.

A company operating in the database marketing strategy industry has received investment from WPP in an agreement that may have benefited from the use of a professional translation service to ensure written documents are clear and compliant in both countries.

WPP is based in Ireland and will buy I-Behaviour, a company that operates in Louisville Colorado, and provides direct marketing services to companies in the finance, retail, catalogue seller, consumer magazines and business-to-business sectors.

"This acquisition continues WPP's strategy of investing in digital knowledge-based marketing solutions companies in fast-growing markets and sectors," the company announced.

However, the value of the transaction has not been released and the agreement is still subject to regulatory approval from shareholders in I-Behaviour.

News of this agreement follows the announcement that WPP has also bought a global relationship marketing brand, Wunderman, which is based in Singapore and delivers its services to public sector employees in the area.

An agreement between Rolls Royce and China Eastern Airlines that was overseen by prime minister David Cameron may also have been witnessed by a language translator.

The contract will see the UK manufacturer deliver 700 aeroplane engines to the Asian enterprise and is said to be worth £750 million for the British brand.

Business secretary Vince Cable said: "Bilateral trade and investment is growing but there is scope for much more. Exporting is important for UK growth and UK jobs."

The discussions came ahead of a further delegation to China that will see energy secretary Chris Huhne, chancellor George Osborne and education secretary Michael Gove head to the Asian nation with a view to fostering further links between it and the UK.

Online clothing and accessories retailer Asos has experienced 120 per cent growth in its international sales, which could be attributed to successful website translation.

Customers in five Chinese cities are set to benefit from telecommunications services from Ericsson – which is headquartered in Sweden – in a move that may have required professional translation, particularly if the brand sought to protect its integrity in the new market.

Ericsson and China Unicom will collaborate for three years with a view to improving the network and transmission to its subscribers in the Anhui province.

Consumers buying alcohol in China will soon be able to ensure their Scotch whisky actually originates from Scotland as a result of new legislation.

The Asian country's government has introduced the Geographical Indication of Origin status, which will be applied to bottles sold there – and the introduction of such an agreement may have been made more efficient thanks to an interpreting service.

First minister Alex Salmond said the ruling "provides discerning Chinese consumers with confidence that when they buy Scotch whisky they're buying a high-quality product from Scotland".

He toasted the introduction with Madam Tan Xiutian, consul general for the People's Republic of China in Scotland, who added that the law will facilitate further growth in the industry, as well as protecting consumers against counterfeit products.
