International News: Russia and UK to discuss science partnerships

ScientistA Russian company that is creating a multibillion-dollar research hub in Moscow is to visit an investment roadshow in the UK next week to discuss partnership possibilities with the UK.

The Skolkovo Foundation confirmed it is to attend the Roadshow event, which takes place in London on February 14 and 15, to enable closer scientific collaboration between the two countries.

More than 100 UK organisations and academic institutions will have the chance to learn more about Russia’s scientific goals for the future and explore possible funding opportunities for joint projects.

They will also be able to hold direct talks with the foundation’s president Viktor Vekselberg and several senior executives.

The Skolkovo Foundation plans to create a research hub in Russia’s “Silicon Valley”, on the outskirts of Moscow, which aims to modernise the country’s technology base. The project will cost an estimated six billion US dollars (£3.8 billion) and is to be part-funded by the Russian Government.
