Campaign aims to encourage more tourists to Britain

A new tourism campaign aims to flag up the great attractions and experiences that can be enjoyed during a visit to Britain.

Secretary of State for Culture Jeremy Hunt said the aim of the campaign is to secure more of the money spent by tourists, with adverts in the 14 biggest and most lucrative tourism markets in nine countries around the world.

VisitBritain’s GREAT campaign will use images closely associated with the country to encourage people to stop and think about a holiday to Britain. It is hoped the pictures, which will include the Union flag, will help with the process of interpreting what is on offer in the UK.

Transport hubs will be the main target, including the New York Subway and Paris Metro, while 100 taxis across Delhi will feature the branding.

Hailing the campaign, which aims to attract an extra 4.6 million visitors to the UK over the next four years and secure an additional £2.3 billion in visitor spend, Mr Hunt said: “Right across the world, there will be no escape from the message that Britain is great.”
