Liverpool goal-scoring legend Ian Rush has opened a new football training centre in Egypt.
While the Anfield hero may have needed some help translating his speech to the local youngsters looking to improve their chances of making it as a professional at the soccer school, there is no doubt they would have recognised the shooting skills of the striker without the need for an interpreter.
The new football academy in Cairo has opened in partnership with local firm Masters Sports.
It is the latest of nine international academies the club has set up in the past two years, with others established in places including Ireland, Denmark, Greece, Indonesia and the USA.
They follow the same model as the academy in Liverpool and allow the stars of the future to be trained by qualified coaches in “the right way”, perhaps even getting the opportunity to play in front of the Kop if they show some promise.
Mohamed Hassan, managing director of Master Sports, said: “We will never walk alone after this engagement with such a great club.”
