German food giant Muller looks set to take over a Scottish dairy company in a deal estimated to be worth £279.5 million.
Robert Wiseman Dairies, based in Glasgow, is the UK’s largest milk supplier, with leading supermarkets among its customers.
The major deal might require English-German services as a transition is made, but the boss of Wiseman said the takeover made “strong commercial and strategic sense”.
Robert Wiseman, executive chairman of the company, who along with other family members will net nearly £100 million from the takeover, said it is “heartening” to know that the business will become part of another family-owned firm.
“The offer represents an attractive price for an outstanding business,” Mr Wiseman said.
Shareholders have yet to officially vote on the takeover but the Scottish company said more than half of them have accepted the German group’s offer. Analysts said they thought the takeover was a “done deal”.
