Interpreter news: South African company publishes drilling results

Harmony Gold Mining has discovered further resources at a site in Papua New Guinea – a joint venture which could regularly benefit from a professional translation service.

Further exploration is needed to establish exactly how much ore is available at the Golpu Morobe Mining location, but work has begun to complete the survey.

"Golpu could develop into one of the most significant copper-gold projects in Papua New Guinea," according to Graham Briggs, chief executive officer of South African Harmony Gold Mining.

He added that the opportunities are "very exciting" and that about 500 million to 800 million tonnes of copper and gold deposits could be extracted from the project.

News of this discovery follows the announcement that Harmony Gold Mining will close one of its assets in Virginia.

Mr Briggs explained the mines have been operational for almost 60 years but have been making a loss for the company and reserves are so depleted "they have reached the end of their lives".
